We all know that the bookies win much more than they lose so when a story breaks that is different to the norm it is time and sit up and take notice! BetFair ran into a huge problem with the Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown. Voler Le Vedette strolled in to win the race but the problem that BetFair had was due to a software glitch punters were still backing the horse at 28-1 right until the end of the race! A total of £800,000 ended up getting staked on the horse which would have meant a payout of around £23 million!

All bets were declared void and a spokesman for BetFair said that is was highly embarassing and an unacceptable betting experience for people. BetFair claimed that it was a unique set of events that had allowed this to happen. It had happened they say due to a rogue bet by a customer that had meant that he had exceded his betting limit on his account and that had caused the software glitch.

The decision to declare all bets as void is not going to go down well with any of their customers and certainly mean that an element of trust is going to be lost forever.
