Are Benfica cursed for another 50 years? Is Gino feeling cursed too when it comes to participating in our quiz? We are well into the third set and there are big developments during this set on this podcast. Also - Fergie, Beckham, Mancini, Terry, Poyet and Watford all have been in the news in what is supposed to be a time of the season when everything is beginning to end and conclusions are made.

Suarez - Mourinho - Klopp - just some of the subjects covered in one capacity in Podcast 9. The conclusion of the second set of the quiz and question marks over one of the players!

So we have reached the middle of April and granted - we have not been able to produce as many podcasts as we had done last year. I could blame this on all kinds of made up crap. The truth is though, that there were a few screw-ups and George has also not been available as freely as he was a year ago making it a little tougher to achieve.

Having said that, we have still managed to keep it going but we are now already drawing towards the end of another season. It only seems like a few short weeks ago when it was dark at 4 and now here we are again watching live games on a Tuesday evening with daylight still outside - ah - the spring (just a real shame about the crappy weather this year).

I may not have explained it too well at the beginning of this podcast but if you are wondering what is going on - it is just me imagining what it was like in Wembley Stadium last Saturday afternoon!  Below the audio player you will see a list of the possible questions and answers that you will hear in the first round of this podcast and all becomes a lot clearer as you listen to the recording. (Note - yes the crow impression is Gino!)

Yes - it is true that I have not been writing as many articles and adding them to this site as I have been in the past. However, the podcasts are still coming every week or two and I will update the home page whenever another podcast is coming soon.
I do have some new material to stick up on the YouTube channel and also add here - I just have to find the time to do it.

I have said it once before and I will say it again right now - just by looking at this site statistics, I am aware that we do get many visitors coming to this site each day and particularly the podcasts page. It would be just nice to hear some feedback from a few more of you!

The quiz panels for the second round of this weeks podcast are below the audio player for you to click on, magnify and perhaps even play along with against the two Italian mad men!

Below the audio player I have added the answers to the two questions in the first round of this weeks quiz. Although it might be slightly confusing, there are really only two questions but both have many questions within each. For example, in the first one the question is who knocked who out of this seasons League Cup. The options of possible answers are displayed below and the boys picked up random cards with different teams named on them for which they correspond their answer with. George got QPR for example to begin with so from the list seen below he had to select his answer as to which team knocked them out. Hope that helps explain it a bit better!!

So there you go - just correcting the numerical cock-up from last time by making this 5b to put us back right with the numbers. Yes, its the fifth podcast for 2013 and the quiz is setting out with its second set.  I am also going to take this opportunity right here in text to say and confess up to the fact that I am not editing some of the material as much as I used to. Therefore, be forewarned there is some strong language used by our two quiz competitors which you will hear.

The first minute or so of this podcast might make you think what the hell I am listening to! But all is revealed for this opening very swiftly afterwards.
Below are the quiz sheets used in the second round of the quiz in this weeks podcast. Just click on them to blow them up to a much larger and readable version.

With all the chopping and changing in trying to meet up, I found myself unable to keep count! I seriously believed that we were on our fifth recording for the year (and of course with splitting some of these recordings in half has not helped either).

But this really is the fourth podcast but because I say in the recording it is #5 there is not a lot I can do about it! This was recorded during (and I stress during) the AC Milan v Barcelona game and therefore there were some distractions.

I will have to call the next podcast #5b just to put us back right again!

The Ray Parlour interview regarding Arsene Wenger which is talked about at the beginning of this podcast is over at this following page - Ray Parlour talks about Wenger's Weaker Eye

In the lead up to our meeting to record the next podcast, neither George nor I had heard from Gino for quite a few days. The previous week (international week) when there were no games of consequence on the Tuesday night, George and I agreed to cancel - but Gino did not know this and did not show up anyway. Because of that alone I said to George that I could not get hold of Gino and left it in his hands and I would wait to hear from him.

It reached Tuesday and the day of the meet with the Celtic v Juventus match taking place that night and I still had not heard anything. Because of this I had not even finished preparing the next quiz. I am not exaggerating when I say that my phone eventually rang at about 7.30 with George saying "Where are you?"

I cringed and just said that I was at home (which is these days about 30 miles away). He then told me that Gino was there and they were waiting for me! Naturally I asked what happened to calling me back to let me know what was going on. George had told me that he had passed that on to Gino to call me directly and then of course the crazy man had just forgotten.

So I just said I was about to eat some pancakes seeing as it was Shrove Tuesday and there was no way that I was coming all that way so late in the day and missing the first half of the game. Ironically, I did make the trip the following evening to meet up with Gino. George was not at home but did get back just before half time so we ended up watching the second half of the Real Madrid v Man United game together.

Alas, we we did not record anything though and I had not even bothered bringing the quiz with me as I was not even sure then that George would be about at all. Whilst we were there he also told us that he might not be about next Tuesday either!

So we are currently having a few ongoing problems with our meets so far this year unlike this time last season. One of the main problems has been that George this year is playing 5-a-side on Wednesday nights  whereas last year this took place on Thursdays, thus this is limiting us a little bit.

At least I am prepared for next week though - even if it means meeting him again at half time on Wednesday and then we will see what we can get done. But we will persist I promise!

This is the "second half" of the recording made when we were last together with two more rounds of the quiz. For the final round, I have added the quiz sheets that the guys were presented with below this paragraph in case anybody wanted to play along.
The questions were (from left to right) -
  • 6 of these 9 Brazilian stars are in their all time top ten caps list - which 6?
  • 6 of these 9 nations finished in the top 10 of last years Olympic medal table - which 6?
  • 6 of these 9 teams currently play in the Russian Premier League - which 6?
Click on the images to blow them up if required.

If you are wondering why this group table is appearing here along with the video that follows then the podcast further explains the reasons for this bizarre event that happened during the 1994 Caribbean Cup in a match between Barbados (not Bahamas as stated in the podcast) and Grenada (not Panama). Here is a link to the Wikipedia page that goes into even more detail.
